so far i've gotten pledges up to $150.. slightly disheartened, but oh well.. its still early..

anyways, last night, we (my tute group) decided tht we spend so much time together at the hospital, but we never meet outside...so we went out to fitzroy st in st kilda to this bar called robarta which was excellent because they gave us girls drink cards! and their passionfruit cocktail thingy was awesome!!
here's the pics:

meet stephanie tizi...aka THE STEPHMEISTER (*said in really cool tone*)
pretty little italian girl who says she's not photogenic but i have yet to find a bad pic of her...

a pledge for breast cancer, plz?pretty plz?

ok..so u guys can probably figure out from my MSN nick.. i've decided to shave my head for charity...breast cancer specifically. if i can get up to $1000 bucks, i'l do it. no, seriously, i will do it.

i know a lot of u guys are probably thinkin tht donating to the breast cancer foundation is overrated coz they probably get a lot of funding as it is, but the fact tht i've lost my dear cousin to breast cancer makes this an issue tht is close to heart.

so far i've got 5 pledges from frens...and im up to $100.

$900 more to go. anyone willing to see a bald nan?

as for now, the plan is to do it on september 14, coz tht coincides with the day my cousin passed away. but i suppose if i reach my target before tht, no point in waitin right?

so guys, let me know if u would like to make a pledge, doesnt matter how small, its the thought tht counts!

on a different note, the application thingy for kevin to come to Australia is lookin optimistic. *fingers crossed*

nan. out.

did u know....

1) stroke is the no 1 cause of disability?
2)Stroke is the 3rd highest cause of death in the world
3)evidence in support of stroke therapy is better than evidence in support for coronary care?
and yet, more finances are put into treating cardiovascular problems rather than stroke care. In fact, MMC does not even have a specific stroke ward!

up on the 5th floor, in this obscure corner near medihotel, lies 54 south, the neurology/neurosurgery/stroke unit. thts my new rotation... the stroke unit is awesome! deb, the 5th yr is really nice (albeit being pretty crap at remembering names), michael, the resident is also very helpful despite being very busy, and best of all, the consultant, this irish dude called jim howe is an amazing teacher! its so nice to have consultants actually ACKNOWLEDGE tht we exist, furthermore spend time during ward rounds teachin us. and he wants to give us a tute tomm!! our second day and the consultant is givin us a tute. somethin tells me tht as much as i hate learnin neuro stuff, im going to like this rotation a lot. a huge difference from orthopaedics, where despite the fact there were heaps and HEAPS (and i mean HEAPS) of consultants, none actually gave a damn abt our presence there. and then u have the ppl like minoo patel (a cock fag as roger calls him) who are so egotistical (is tht how u spell it??) and thk so highly of themselves. (this from a guy who didnt get into the trainin programme in Australia and had to go to the US jus to specialise in ortho)

anyways, back to jim howe. i have NEVER seen a doctor interect so caringly with patients. seriously, he's better than some of the nurses i've seen around. im so used to seeing doctors during ward rounds jus talk abt management and not even talk to the patient. on the other end of the spectrum is jim who kneels next to them, stroke's their hand, and even tries to help them walk. amazing.

anyways, its time to get back to studyin.
